Arranged in a circle or a line, one player begins the game by whispering a message in the next player’s ear. The whispered message is passed from person to person until everyone has participated, at which point the last player gets to reveal aloud to the group what they heard the message to be.

A more stringent group will aim to retain the exact same message from the first player to the last, but it just takes one devious (or quiet!) player to muddle the results. In my opinion, the game is at its best when the whispers were quiet enough to muddle the message… accidentally 😉

An “eggcorn” is a word or phrase that results from mishearing or misinterpreting another word or phrase, where the mistaken version makes some logical sense on its own. The term itself is an eggcorn of "acorn."

A "mondegreen" refers to a misheard song lyrics or poetry, like hearing "there's a bathroom on the right" instead of "there's a bad moon on the rise."
